Mount Airy's premier shopping,
dining, and entertainment complex.
The Main Oak Emporium occupies
the northernmost half of a city block bordered by Main
and Oak, and City Hall Streets in Historic Downtown
Mount Airy, NC. Since opening in July 2000, the Emporium
has become the area's favorite shopping, dining and
entertainment center, due in great part to the unique
collection of merchandise from over 100 vendors and
the addition of "The Good Life Cafe & Market."
Not only will visitors be impressed
with the extraordinary shopping and great food, they
will also find the Emporium's interior intriguing. Yadkin
Valley Living Magazine described the Emporium as a "terrific
reuse of an old heritage building." The building's vintage
architectural elements and original charm have been
preserved while being transformed into one of North
Carolina's most exciting destinations.
According to documentation on
historical structures, the landmark Main Street building
was constructed circa 1905 and was used for decades
as the storefront of the John H. Midkiff Hardware Company.
The company's two brick warehouses were added in separate
renovation phases and completed in the 1930s. All three
buildings now comprise the not-to-be-missed Downtown
landmark, Main Oak Emporium.
